City & School Election filings end




Friday marked the deadline to file for the upcoming May 11 elections.

City of Pleasanton

In Pleasanton, the only race that needs to be decided is that of District 6. Current council person Jeanne B. Israel will face Roel Marez.

Mayor Clint Powell and City Councilmembers J.R. Gallegos (District 4) and Roger G. Garza (District 5) did not draw any opponents.

Pleasanton ISD

The election for trustess will be cancelled since incumbents Blasa F. Chapa (District 1), District 3, Frank A. “Butch” Tudyk Jr. (District 3) and Clinton Henson (District 6) have no opponents in the Pleasanton ISD race.

There will still be the bond election on the ballot.

If passed, funds will be used to construct a new high school, football stadium, retrofit existing campuses, increase security and provide safer traffic flow.

City of Poteet

Larry Cantu has filed for the Mayor’s position. Raymond Leal has filed for Place 5 Alderman against incumbent Denise Sanchez.

Place 4 Alderman race has Rick Flores and Vanessa Saylor as candidates. The seat was vacated by Larry Cantu, mayoral candidate.

Early voting will be held at the Poteet ISD Administration building. On election day, voting will take place at the Poteet Jr. High.

Poteet ISD

Incumbents for Place 6- Louis Vasquez and Place 7 -David Herrera, Jr have filed for the school trustee race. They did not have any opposition, so the ISD will be cancelling their election.

Election Guide

Candidates are encouraged to participate in the Pleasanton Express Election Guide.

This free guide will be published on April 17, 2013 in time for the city and school elections.

The deadline is Thursday, March 28 and candidates are asked to send in their statement (250 word limit) and a photo to sbrown@pleasantonexpress.com.

Jourdanton, Charlotte and Christine will hold their city and school elections in November.
