A kind and gentle soul left this world July 12, 2016 when Christopher Michael Mikey De La O passed away.
Michael was born on November 20, 1975 to Annie and Ysidor De La O at the old Mercy Hospital in Jourdanton. He passed away on July 12, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas.
Michael is survived by his mother, Annie De La O; grandfather, Gregorio Serrata, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ysidor De La O; grandmothers, Andrea Serrata and Josephine Allen.
Mike loved music. At a very young age he learned to play the guitar from his father Ysidor. Ysidor could not read music, but was a very talented musician. So he taught Mike to play the guitar and Mike taught his father to read the music.
Mike also loved to read and was interested in lots of different subject matters. He always had a book at hand that he could pick up and read.
He was an avid comic book collector. His favorite comic book hero was Spiderman.
Mike was a Star Wars fan, collecting Star Wars memorabilia, watching Star Wars movies and reading Star War books.
He was always on the lookout for an arrowhead as he walked around the ranch.
Mike started his collecting career at a very young age going to Busseys Flea Market with his mom. He learned to negotiate prices and budget his allowance to buy marbles, comic books and other collectables that caught his eye.
He loved his cats and dogs. But the cats were his favorites and he had them spoiled rotten.
A visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Friday, July 15 from 3 – 8 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. A funeral service was also held at Hurley Funeral Home, Pleasanton on Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. Interment followed at San Jose Cemetery in Jourdanton.
Pallbearers for Mikey’s service were Brian Serrata, Michael Serrata, Heather Caballero, Richard Mendez and Gregory Mendez.
Honorary pallbearers were Mollie Jo Clarkson Irvine, Shelly Duncan, David Dean Gomez and Alano Damian Garza.
