On April 7, Associate Judge Melissa DeGerolami signed the proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.

It states that Atascosa County prides itself on giving back to the community, contributing to the quality of life among our citizens.

CASA of South Texas, in association with Texas CASA, the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association, Atascosa County Child Protective Services and the Children’s Alliance- A Child Advocacy Center, speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in the juvenile courts.

Approximately 101 children in Atascosa County suffer from some form of confirmed abuse or neglect each year.
