Jeff S. Bray is just your ordinary everyday person who is living life with his wife and four children in the small town of Charlotte. Driving a truck in the transportation industry, Bray spends his spare time pursuing his writing career by writing blogs and, most recently, a series of children’s books, using his voice to glorify God.

“I have been writing for years, for different things, but there’s some background for how ‘Elissa the Curious Snail’ came about,” said Bray. “About three years ago, my daughter Audrey came up to me and asked me to write her a story about a snail. I had never thought about writing a children’s story before, so I did and before I knew it I was finished with it.”

Isabella Media, Inc., the publishing company Bray writes for, heard about his story and asked to take a look at it.

“I sent it to them and they came back saying they liked it and wanted to print it for me,” said Bray, who agreed.

Before he knew it, ‘Elissa the Curious Snail’ was off to the printers and published in no time by early June. The story features Elissa, a curious snail who loves to wander around the garden she lives in and explore new adventures.

To celebrate the release of his newly published book, Bray paid a special visit to the Charlotte Public Library during story time on Thursday, June 28 to debut his book for the first time.

“It is very awesome to have a local author come by and show his support for the library by reading for us,” said Librarian Marianne McGinnis.

Bray also had a few books available for sale the day of the reading for $10 each, with $1 going toward the library’s fundraiser this summer.

After the reading, the children asked Bray some questions about his book such as how he came up with the look for Elissa and the colors used to which he responded: “I wanted Elissa to closely resemble Gary from Spongebob. The purples and maroons you see in the art work throughout the book represent Audrey’s favorite colors.”

Although the book is printed and for sale, Elissa’s adventures are surely not over yet.

“The publishing company loved Elissa so much that they asked me to write a second book about her adventures in which she meets Francine, the little girl whose backyard she lives in,” said Bray.

Elissa the Curious Snail Meets Francine’ will be released in mid July, but Elissa’s adventures still do not stop there.

“I am currently working on book five right now,” said Bray. “The plan is to release each new book one month after the other at least through the rest of this year. The series will carry on as long as the publishing company wants me to write.”You can order ‘Elissa the Curious Snail today by visiting www.elissathecurioussnail.com.
