Charlotte bounces back over PettusFree Access

The Charlotte Trojans rebounded in a big way in District 15-2A DII with a 38-0 romp over Pettus at home Friday.

The Trojans held a 32-0 lead at the half before scoring one last time in the third quarter.

Charlotte held Pettus to -3 yards rushing and 54 yards passing. Meanwhile the Trojans ran just 20 plays from scrimmage for 211 yards. Charlotte picked up 201 of those yards on the ground.

Manuel Cancel led the way on a day the Trojans spread the wealth. He finished with 87 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. His brother, Jeremiah, had one carry in the game and it went for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Alex Martinez had nine carries for 59 yards to go with 10 passing yards and a touchdown on a completion to Xavier Martinez. Brandon Sanchez picked up 34 rushing yards on two carries as well.

The stout defense was once again led by Jeremiah Cancel, who had seven tackles, four for a loss, two sacks, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Sanchez also had a fumble recovery for a touchdown to go with five tackles, three for a loss and four sacks. Andru Castillo had six tackles and one for a loss.

Anthony Romo had the lone interception for the Trojan defense.

Charlotte (5-2, 1-1) now welcomes no. 1-ranked Falls City (6-1, 2-0) to Trojan Field on Friday. Falls City’s lone loss came against 3A-DII no. 9 Poth in week 2.
