Charles M. Griffin, Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 in San Antonio,. He was born in McAllen to Leon and June Griffin.
He was an electrician and installed the light at the top of the Tower of the Americas when it was built. He enjoyed woodworking and being with his family especially his grandkids. Charles was an active member of the Poteet Rotary Club and served as a past president and treasurer and he also helped with the Poteet Strawberry Festival Association. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leon “Max” and June Griffin; stepmother Eloise Griffin, daughter Margie Urban, and brother Robert Griffin.
Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years Violet Griffin; son Charles Griffin, Jr. and wife Violanda; daughters Carol Le Sage and husband Mark and Terri Hoffman and husband Larry; son-in-law Steve Urban; sister Juanita Harvey and husband George. He is also survived by his grandchildren Charlene Herrera and husband James, Cynthia Regan and husband Jason, Jacob Griffin and wife Adriana, and Stephanie Lopez and husband Joey; great- grandkids Brice Hoffman, Giavana Herrera, Dominic Herrera, Sydney Regan, Gabriella Regan, Sylar Griffin, Zoey Griffin, Steven Lopez, Mason Lopez, Nicholas Lopez and one on the way Trinity Regan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family asks in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
