Martinez homestead a total loss after early morning fire erupted on Monday.

Homeowner Armand Martinez of Poteet had grown up in the house that was destroyed by fire early Monday morning about 2:30 a.m.

The house had been used as a rental property but the owner had told the renters to move out. According to Martinez, the family had been moving out for two days.

Dogs trained in searching for signs of arson were used but found nothing in their initial search. Martinez said he is still suspicious about who might have set the fire. “Something wasn’t right,” he stated.

Fire units were called out from Poteet, Rossville, Primrose and Pleasanton. The Primrose and Pleasanton units were dismissed from the call shortly after being called out when it was decided the fire was beyond control and the other units could handle the work needed.

County Sheriff ’s Deputies have made no arrests in the case.

County Fire Marshal Chuck Garris inspected the old house and the area around it, however, said he found no evidence of arson during this first visit to the site.
