Can‘t vote if you’re not registered

A very important city election will be held on Saturday, May 12, with two council seats up for grabs and two initiatives regarding the community center/ library on the ballot. Regardless of which side you are on, you cannot vote unless you are registered. How many of us have heard people actually bragging that they aren’t registered to vote because they don’t want to be called for jury duty? First, shame on them. Second, the jury pool is no longer picked from registered voters, but from anyone who has a driver’s license. So, there is no reason not to register to vote.

The final day to do so for this election is April 13. Forms are available at the Pleasanton Public Library; they are quick to complete, asking very basic information and are free to mail back to the county.

For those that are registered already, you will not receive a new card before the election due to the confusion and delay on the redistricting issue. BUT, you can vote with your current card or a picture ID.

This is an important opportunity to express your opinion and let your desires be heard. Please, don’t waste it!
