Bug’s play

I enjoy a good school play. I find them charming, especially the funny ones.  And the ones that feature my family members, those are the best!

I confess, I had visions of Brandon, my oldest, being in theatre. It is something I wish I had done, so as moms tend to do, my dreams became my goals for my children.

No Voc. Ag for my kid.  Nope, he was gonna be a bit preppy.  Nice collared shirts, beautifully combed hair, all that.

Well, it didn’t take long for that dream to be squashed.

He spits way too much and he’s the guy who says ‘ain’t’ instead of isn’t.  He’s the one who doesn’t have a pair of jeans that aren’t stained and holey and only two of those aren’t Levi’s.

My youngest, Colton, he’s definitely a tough guy, but not nearly as ridged as Brandon is with his macho attitude.  So there is hope for him. No guarantees, but there is hope.

Now Erin. She’s in Theatre  Arts this year.  So I am hoping next year she’ll be able to perform in Theatre Production.

So, on Monday I went to JISD to see the play, Big Love.  The theatre team took the play all the way to Area.

And I’m not going to brag too much, but my niece, Caitlin, was quite the award winner, All Star Cast and all that.

The play was extremely funny, I laughed out loud several times.  And as disturbing as it sounds, the funniest part was the mass murder scene.  It’s hard to describe in writing how they pulled off the comedy in this. But they did.

At any rate, I specifically went to see my dear niece Caiti-Bug.  I’ve seen a few of her plays before.  She does a great job and is, of course, adorable.

What more could an aunt ask for?

Well, I can’t brag on Caitlin without at least mentioning the others.

I became an aunt at a young age.  I was 10 when Desiree was born.  Then came Deidre and Devin; Jared, Megan and Caitlin.

They each hold a special place in my heart and I am so proud of them all.

But, I digress. My point in all of this is to say that if you have the opportunity to see a family member perform, acting, sports, whatever, young or old, go check them out. It will be worth your time.

And even if you don’t know anyone in one of these local performances, get out there and go. Take a friend. It will be a blast.
