Here is an excerpt:

“Daddy’s Home…The Polaroid

This may take a bit, but I promise I will try to not chase too many rabbits before I get to my point. I was visiting with Mom and Pops the other day, and we were talking about the way things used to be…went back in time 30 years or so and talked about my childhood and the things I remembered that really stood out.

Home movies…I remember setting up the projector in the den and watching those ol’ grainy movies with no sound and hoping the film did not start melting before the end.

Paul Harvey…I would love to take a time machine back 25 years and find a shade tree, a tall glass of sweet tea in a Mason jar, and an old AM radio and let the day drift back to another time. I remember Pops trying to figure out the rest of the story before Mr. Harvey was through.

Polaroid cameras…you take a picture then wait for it to develop while you shake it dry. We used to watch it work and be amazed as the picture came to life.

Now, I am getting to my point.

I have a Polaroid picture on my desk. It is dated 12-31-81. I am 9 years old with my best friend. We are decked out in full football suits. My buddy is wearing my #41 Charlie Waters jersey. My mom had written on the picture “Alan & Todd, Best of Friends.” I remember that day…standing in the front yard…just finished throwing a pretty pass across the middle which Todd caught for the game winning touchdown to “beat Philadelphia” with one second left on the clock. My mom took the picture and we crowded around waiting to see what “that one second in time” would look like.”
