On Jan. 21, at noon a benefit will be held for Sug Riley of the Somerset/Poteet area. Riley’s mobile home burned to the ground on Dec. 27, 2011, off Smith Road and Highway 16.
The benefit will be held at Buddy’s Place on K Street in Somerset and will include the sale of barbecue plates and an auction. A fund has been established at Atascosa National Bank in Pleasanton
Riley got out of his burning house with only a shirt and jeans (no shoes) and lost everything, including three pet dogs. All money collected will go to Karnes Electric, Benton City Water and a septic tank company to hook up utilities for an old trailer Riley bought at an inexpensive rate, that has been moved to a small piece of property he received from his father on the corner of FM 2146 and Amphion Rd.
Donations that are needed include:
1. Gently used furniture and household items including beds, toaster, coffee pot, towels, wash rags, lamps, sheets etc.
2. Money donated should be made out to Karnes Electric or Benton City Water Supply Company in the form of a check, money order or cashier’s check with Sug Riley’s name mentioned.
3. Anyone who has pictures of Sug, Casey, Donna, Donna’s family etc. is asked to make copies or loan the pictures so copies can be made. Sug and his son Casey took this loss the hardest and no money In the world can replace them.
4. Items for auction.
Many thanks go to those that have already helped Sug including Ronnie Peterson, Kenneth Haliburton, Burley Faulkner and Mark Cantu who moved the trailer to its new location.
If you have any questions, want to arrange for pick up of larger items, arrange for photos, or anything else please call Sharon at (210) 241-8848.
