Be merry and bright at Merry on Main Dec. 6-7



 

 

The City of Pleasanton and the Merry on Main committee are so excited as the ten-day count down for this Christmas festival held at the Pleasanton River Park, Dec. 6 and Downtown Pleasanton, Dec. 7, begins.

Support these businesses during the holidays and give them thanks for helping create such great memories on Main Street. Start a new Christmas tradition this year by planning on attending both nights which offer different delights and experiences for kids of all ages 0-99 plus.

Here is the rundown on the fun so you and your family and friends can plan to attend all the festivities:

Friday, December 6, Pleasanton River Park from 5:30 p.m.-9:00ish. Entry is free to the public as are most of the happenings. The only cost of the evening will be for carriage and pony rides which are $5 a head. Bring money for the food truck and vendors who will be offering up some tasty delights.

 

 

The evening will begin with Christmas caroling from local church choirs and the lighting of the City of Pleasanton’s 28-foot Christmas tree. The Pleasanton Parks & Recreation Dept. has created a Winter Wonderland that features a “Spruced up Pleasanton.” A festive display of 40 Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and organizations will shine bright throughout the park. At 6:00 p.m. all the activities such as carriage and pony rides, and free fun such as Ice Slide, Virtual Reality Christmas themed roller coaster, and the much anticipated Merry on Main’s Got Talent Show will begin. The Talent Show’s Master of Ceremony will be comedian Cleto Rodriquez and judges will be Brad Jenschke, John Mayse, Linda Hall and Kristi David. There are 21 contestants who are putting their talents on stage and their heart and soul into each performance. Three winners 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be selected at the end of the night winning cash prizes. The top winner will have an opportunity to perform on the Merry on Main Stage in downtown Pleasanton on Dec. 7.

 

 

On Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m., Main Street in Downtown Pleasanton will be filled with Christmas fun and frivolity. Most all activities are free, but bring your money for the great line-up of more than 40 food and retail vendors on Main Street. Don’t be surprised if you are greeted by Olaf, Elsa or Anna from Frozen, the Grinch, Frosty the Snowman or Christmas Minnie or Mickey Mouse, or from the greatest of them all, Santa!

A new attraction this year is the free Ice Skating Rink and a bigger and better Kid Zone all located at the Woman’s Club, 321 Main Street. Kid Zone area will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Kid Zone will feature a video arcade truck, bounce houses, games, face painting, and so much more. Fivedollar pony rides will also be offered. The Little Miss Merry on Main pageant begins at 10 a.m. at the Plestex Theatre. A free showing of Elf at the Plestex begins at 11:15 a.m.

 

 

Carolers have their own stage this year and will feature: 12:00-12:30-New Beginnings Baptist Church, 12:30-1:00-Community Bible Chapel, 1:00- 1:30 p.m.-Living Water Fellowship, 1:30-3:30 p.m.- The Believers (from St. Andrew’s), 3:30- 5:30 p.m., Victorian Secrets (Professional carolers who dress in Victorian Clothing).

Main Stage Entertainment (corner of Hunt and Main St.) starts at 11:30 a.m. and will feature:

The Bike Parade starts at 1:00. Sign up is easy and happens at the Main Stage (corner of Hunt and Main St.) no later than 12:50 p.m. on December 7. Riders will be assigned a number that will be affixed to their clothing or vehicle. Age groups are at the parent’s discretion, but suggested ages are as follows: Wagons: 0-2 years old, Trikes: 3-6 years old, Bikes: 6+. A bicycle with training wheels will be considered a trike. Parents are encouraged to walk on the sideline if their child needs assistance. The participants will ride down the right side of Main St. to the Woman’s Club (at Main and College St.) then turn and return to the Main Stage on the left side of the street. Judges will score in three categories: theme, creativity, and originality. Wagons and Trike participants may receive help from an adult; bike participants are encouraged to decorate on their own. Costumes will be considered part of the decorations. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies will be awarded to each age group.

 

 

Christmas Cookie Contest judging begins at 1:30. Enter to win in the following categories: Best Taste, Best Decorated, Best Overall. Ages 7-17 Child and 18+ Adult. Bring six cookies in a disposable container. Write your name, phone number and what age group you belong to on the container. All entries need to be turned in by noon at 123 Main Street (corner of N. Main St. and Hunt.)

 

 

Elf Shelf Shopping store will be open from noon-5:00 p.m. on Dec. 7 at 123 N. Main Street (corner of Main St. and Hunt). Do your kiddos want to buy gifts ALL BY THEMSELVES, but everything is a bit expensive for them? The Merry on Main Committee is so happy to announce the Elf Shelf store will be opening as part of the Merry on Main festivities! The Elf Shelf store is designed to give kids a place to buy gifts ranging from 0.25-$6.00 for their loved ones. The gift will be put into a gift bag, and the parents or guardians will wait outside so the kids can surprise them! There are wristband safety measures. This is such a fun activity for the kiddos. Don’t miss out!

Photos with Santa on Main Street by Dowdy’s Real Estate will happen from 3-5 p.m.

Jingle Bell Fun Run begins at 5 p.m. The Jingle Bell Fun Run is free and open to all ages. Costumes are encouraged. This is a run, not a race and will total about two miles at a slow pace. Meet in front of the Methodist Church at Weems and Main St. Please stay afterwards for the parade and fireworks. There will be a hospitality area with water and Gatorade.

 

 

Lighted Christmas Parade starts at 6 p.m. There are 80 entries in the Merry on Main Lighted Christmas Parade, and if that is not enough excitement a fireworks show extravaganza starting at 7 p.m. sponsored by H-E-B and Plestex Movie Theater will be the grand finale. Parade route will be published in the Dec. 4 issue of the Pleasanton Express and on the Merry on Main St. Facebook page.
