The Atascosa County Historical Society and the Atascosa County Historical Commission are proud to announce that Renee Bautista, a 2021 graduate from Charlotte High School, was selected to receive the $1,000 Norman F. Porter Sr. Memorial Scholarship.
Bautista, an A and B Honor Roll student, served as an officer for the Charlotte High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi to pursue a degree in biomedical science and would like to eventually work in a research facility.
The Norman F. Porter, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was created in 2015 to honor a man who spent his life as an educator, coach and school administrator. After retirement, Mr. Porter dedicated his time to the history of Atascosa County, serving as Chairman of the Historical Commission and authoring an in-depth historical account of county history through 1912.
“We are confident that this hard working student will accomplish her goals and more,” said Barbara Westbrook. “Congratulations, Renee!”
