Batto graduates from Walden Univ.




The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University is pleased to list among its 2015 Education Doctoral graduates, Dr. Elizabeth Bernadette (Bernie) Batto, of Jourdanton.

Dr. Batto was hooded and had her degree conferred at ceremonies on July 11, 2015, held at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland.

Named for the former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, the Riley College of Education and Leadership is dedicated to improving educator effectiveness and preparing educators who make a positive impact on student achievement. The College provides access to high caliber progress that prepare learners as scholarpractitioners and leaders who can inspire, influence and impact their diverse communities by helping to meet the challenges and opportunities of education worldwide.

The College fosters a dynamic and diverse network of educational leaders who seek to support learners globally by leveraging the power of teaching and technology and who are committed to the pursuit of positive social change through education.

Dr. Batto is a native of Bandera and a 1979 graduate of Bandera High School. She went on to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State University in 1984 where she majored in Business Education and minored in Counseling. She earned her Master of Education in Guidance Counseling in 1987 from Southwest Texas State University.

In addition, in 2005 she earned a Master of Education from Walden University in Integrating Technology into the Curriculum. Dr. Batto has completed coursework in Administrative Leadership from Texas A and M University – Kingsville. She is a certified Texas educator with certifications in Business Administration, Business Secretarial Education, Guidance Associate, Special Education, Counselor, and Principal.

Dr. Batto is completing her thirty-first year in education and is currently employed with Poteet Independent School District at the junior high level as a counselor and campus testing coordinator. She has also served

Poteet I.S.D. as elementary counselor, elementary and high school assistant principal, and Director of Special Programs and Student Support Services.

Prior to her time at Poteet I.S.D., Dr. Batto held the position of business and journalism teacher with Pettus Independent School District and high school counselor with Cotulla Independent School District.

While at Walden University she was accepted as a charter member of the Alpha Epsilon Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and Golden Key International Honor Society. She held a 4.0 GPA. in her coursework and completed her doc- toral study entitled, “Staff Member Perceptions of a Behavior Student

Support Team Approach”, in which she studied the use of behavior student support teams within the educational setting.

Dr. Batto is the daughter of Raymond Howard Batto, Jr. and Mattie Elizabeth Batto, of Bandera, and the sister of Marie Antoinette (Toni) Batto, of Bandera. She is the granddaughter of the late Effie Jane Bartel Strickland, Eugene Hamilton Butts, Raymond Howard Batto, Sr. and Agatha Frances Mazurek Batto.
