Local squads kicked off their basketball season over the weekend and if that doesn’t indicate how fast time is flying, I’m not sure what will. Last week also marked the end of the football regular season and the start of volleyball playoffs. During the first few weeks of August, we interviewed the football, volleyball and cross country coaches for the upcoming season. Little do we know that the season comes to an end just as soon as it starts.
Congratulations to the Jourdanton Squaws on a heck of a season on the volleyball court. Their playoff run that led them to the regional quarterfinals was fun to follow and there’s no doubt the future of the program is bright. Speaking of bright futures, the Jourdanton Indians are looking as sharp as ever on the football field. Some of the experts at Dave Campell’s Texas Football have them picked to win the region. We’ll take it one game at a time though. The journey kicks off this Thursday when they play in Converse.
I covered my first basketball game of the season on Saturday when Pleasanton hosted Natalia. Unfortunately, I can’t highlight every athlete in this column piece but I’ll give a brief shoutout to Addison Perez. The freshman can hoop, plain and simple. The Poteet Lady Aggies evidently can hoop as well. We’ll get a better idea of how the season will go in a few weeks. This Friday, I’ll cover a double-header with the Lady Aggies at St. Anthony and Pleasanton boys team in their season opener at Fox Tech. The schools are just six minutes apart so I don’t think I’m getting ahead of myself (this time). Thank you for reading and have a great week!
