Baldemar “Balde” Barrera, age 70 of Charlotte passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 in San Antonio. He was born on Sunday, October 8, 1950 to Emilio and Hortencia (De La Garza) Barrera.
Balde was a dedicated, hardworking and outspoken man. Family was significant to him and he loved them unconditionally. Balde worked 50 hard years in the oilfield until he retired. He then enjoyed every single day of his retirement, with his children, grandchildren and his animals. Family tradition was key to Balde. He made sure to continue the traditions he was taught as a child and stressed that importance to his children. Balde was the root of his family, the best dad any child could ask for and an even better grandfather to his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all.
Balde is survived by his daughter, Emily Barrera of Charlotte; sons, Baldemar J. Barrera of Charlotte and Adam Barrera and wife Maria of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Olivia Grace Barrera, Mark Franklin Barrera and Emilio Gavino Barrera. He is also survived by his siblings, Emilio Barrera and wife Glenda of Laredo, and Eliseo Barrera and wife Rachel of Charlotte; sistersin law, Frances Barrera and Pauline Barrera; extended family, Brittany, Ryatt “Jose” and Matthew Reese, Mary Lou Gonzales, and Ricky and Jeanette Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
Balde was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Baldemar “BJ” Barrera Jr.; sister, Olga Almaras, and brothers, Raymond and Oscar Barrera.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 373 Madero in Charlotte. Services will conclude after the Mass.
The family requests that masks be worn at all times during the visitation, mass, and burial and adhere to social distancing.
