The Autism Awareness Day event organized by the Peace for the Pieces Social Group on April 17 was a great success, with many turning out for the beautiful celebration. Pictured before the butterfly mural background are, from left: Marianna Reyes, Elena Martinez and Maricela Martinez. The family of the late Desiree Anger painted the mural to honor her.
Above, Vanessa Anger shares some emotional words about her daughter, Desiree Anger, at the Pleasanton River Park. A redbud tree was planted in memory of Desiree, just before the Autism Walk. “Anyone who has a child with autism or special needs knows that there is a cross that our children carry. There is a burden that they are given,” Anger told the crowd. Desiree was a testament to everything that is good in the world, she later said. Please look in next week’s issue of the Pleasanton Express for a story and more photos from the event.
