The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office have made two arrests in the connection with the death of a Jourdanton area man last Saturday night during a family quarrel. Sheriff David Soward said that sheriff’s dispatchers received a call around 9:30 p.m. that a man had been stabbed at his residence in the 5200 block of FM 2146, 5 miles northwest of Jourdanton. Responding sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel discovered the victim, Arturo Alvarado, 56 suffering from a single stab wound to the chest.
Witnesses told deputies that two of the victim’s sons had gotten into a fight and the victim intervened in an attempt to break it up. The witnesses said that the victim and his son Marco Antonio Alvarado, went to the ground in a scuffle and the elder Alvarado was stabbed with his own knife. The victim was treated at the scene by EMS and transported to South Texas Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Justice of the Peace Betty Caballero ordered an autopsy which was performed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office Sunday morning.
Sheriff’s investigators arrested Marco Alvarado, 27, 5245 FM 2146, Jourdanton and charged him with murder. Deputies also arrested the victim’s brother, Alberto Sanchez Villagomez, 45, 122 Palo Duro Trail, Von Ormy. Villagomez was charged with Tampering with Evidence. According to investigators, Villagomez attempted to conceal the knife from authorties after the after the stabbing. Sergeant Investigator Jesse Martinez is heading up the investigation and was assisted by Captain Matthew Miller and Lieutenant Investigator Wayne Stratton. Also assisting were Sergeant-Deputy Paul Schneider and Deputy Ralph Coronado. Villagomez was released on $30,000 bond. Sheriff Soward said that Alvarado was released on a $100,000 bond set by Judge Caballero on Tuesday morning.
