Atascosa County producer receives the 2019 Man of the Year Award

The District 12 Texas County Agriculture Agents Association of Texas is proud to present its Man of the Year for 2019 Mr. Bill Slomchinski. Bill is known for his involvement in the peanut and cattle Industry in Texas. Bill farms peanuts and cotton and runs a cow calf operation with his son Brett. Bill has been active with several extension program areas for over forty years including the Atascosa Peanut Growers Association and now the South Texas Peanut Growers Association.

Bill is also active with the Atascosa Club Calf Breeders Association, hosting sale meetings, sale viewings, and other activities at his home. Bill has hosted several result demonstrations on his local farm with the most recent ones being a peanut herbicide trial, small grains and prickly pear trial. Bill has also hosted producers field days on his farm showcasing the results of the trials.

For many years Bill served as an educator at the Ag Fair where he presented peanut production for 4th grade students across Atascosa County.

 

 

Additionally Bill loves working with young folks and their beef cattle projects, making sure they have quality animals for a fair price.

Bill serves as a director for the Texas Peanut Producers Board and represents the producers from the southern part of the state with a strong voice and willingness to make a difference in peanut production in Texas. Bill has had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. with Texas Farm Bureau and represent the Peanut Producers of Texas.

Most recently Bill and his son Brett were honored by winning the Texas Farm Credit National video Contest where they received $10,000.00 to donate to the charity of their choice. Bill is a great example of a man who loves agriculture, youth and extension educational programs

Bill is supported in all his endeavors by his wife Gail, three children, and beautiful grandchildren.

It is an honor for Atascosa County and District 12 to recognize Bill Slomchinski as the 2019 Man of the Year.
