Atascosa County Livestock Show begins Jan. 15Free Access

Area youth are busy working on their projects to be judged at the Atascosa County Livestock Show. The show will be held January 15-20, with the auction set for Saturday at noon. The parade of champions will be presented before the auction, starting at 10 a.m.

Buyers may sign up early by completing the forms that are available on their website or by contacting the ACLS office at 830-569-3747. They may also sign up beginning at 9 a.m. before the auction.

The week-long event’s schedule follows:

7:00 a.m. -Grounds Open for Ag Mechanics

7:30 p.m.- AG. MECHANICS Projects in place


7:00 a.m. – Grounds Open and Animals may begin arriving

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. – Check in and sift POULTRY

8:00 a.m. – Check in and sift RABBITS

9:00 a.m. – Judge Ag Mechanic Projects

9:30 a.m. – Judge Poultry

10:00 a.m. -All Rabbits in place and in line on show grounds

10:00 a.m. – Deadline to sign up for Rabbit Showmanship

Following Poultry Show -Showmanship for Rabbits

Following Rabbit Sift & Showmanship – Judge Rabbits

1 Hour after Rabbit Show – Facilities Closed


7:00 a.m. – Grounds Open and Animals may begin arriving

8:30 a.m. – Deadline for LAMBS to be in place and in assigned pens

8:30 a.m. -Deadline for GOATS to be in place and in assigned pens

9:00 a.m. – Weigh and Sift Goats

After Goat Weigh In -Weigh and Sift Lambs

After Lamb Weigh In – Check Breeding Goat Papers

After Lamb Weigh In – Classify Lambs

30 min. after Checking Goat Papers – Judge Goats (Market then Breeding)

30 min. after Judging Goats – Judge Lambs

30 min. after Judging Lambs – Goat and Lamb Skillathon

10:00 a.m. – Deadline for HOGS to be in place and in assigned pens

11:00 a.m. -Weigh, sift and classify Hogs

After Market Hog Weigh-in – Check Breeding Hog Papers

10:00 p.m. – Facilities Closed


7:00 a.m. – Grounds Open and Animals may begin arriving

8:00 A.M. – Judge Hogs (Market then Breeding)

11:00 a.m. – Deadline for CATTLE to be in place and in assigned stalls

3:00 p.m. – Weigh, sift and classify Steers by show order

After steer weigh in – Check Breeding Beef papers

5:30 p.m. – Beef & Swine Skillathon

10:00 p.m. – Facilities Closed


9:00 a.m.- Judge Beef Cattle (Market then Breeding)

10:00 a.m.- Deadline to remove Ag. Mechanics

1:00 p.m.- Deadline to let Ag Teachers or 4-H Leaders know what you will sell

3:00 p.m.- Set up for Auction-all exhibitors who are selling a project participate

5:00 p.m.- Sign up for judging contest

5:30 p.m. – Judging Contest

10:00 p.m. – Facilities Closed


9:00 a.m. – Buyer Registration Area Opens

9:30 a.m. – Line up for Parade of Champions

10:00 a.m.- Buyer Hospitality Area Opens

10:00 a.m. – Parade of Champions

12:00 p.m.- Auction Sale Begins-All Grand and Reserve Grand Champion animals and exhibitors must walk through the sale ring.

All other exhibitors must walk through sale ring.

Cutie pie McAda Rutherford, member of the Leming/Verdi 4-H, and her Atascosa County Livestock hog project Dwayne (Duroc) Johnson are preparing for the 2018 show which will be held January 15-20. The big auction will be held on Saturday, January 20 at noon. Make plans to get out to support the youth of Atascosa County.
