Bits and Bobs: I am pleased that Methodist South has asked me to serve on a public advisory board of theirs to consult with the hospital. I hope this appointment will be an asset for the county.
While thinking about medical, I need to inform you that our Indigent Health Care Department is out of money for this budget year and we are rebuilding our policies in that area. The Commissioners were kind enough to appoint me as the acting manager of that department, so I am very involved in it. If you have any questions, feel free to call me.
Still thinking about medical ……….. the county (self – insured) medical insurance is struggling financially. This is a very, very important program for our employees and I feel we should make sure we maintain a good health insurance policy for our county personnel. I will be asking the Commissioner’s Court to let me go out for bid.
I continue to be very pleased with Travelers Insurance, our Property and Casualty and Workmens’ Comp carrier. We have assigned a safety officer for the county and each work or public accident on our property or equipment is followed up.
Our IT department continues to be a great asset to the county and saves us money in a large way since we created it. My court visitor program is doing so well that I must brag on it. Monitoring guardianships is a very important function because these subjects (wards) are usually some of our most vulnerable citizens. Every County Judge (except in large counties and with some exceptions) is taught that it is our job to manage these accounts. In Atascosa County it is mine. I care about the people on my watch.

Thank you for listening.
We want you to be proud of your county government.
