Atascosa County Judge’s Report

How does this sound? “You can’t make a mistake and go to the wrong county polling station to vote.” Or, “you never need to call again to figure out where to go to vote.” “You can go to any county voting location and vote!”

That is all possible with county – wide voting implemented. But the county has to petition to be a new county and they only allow so many each to start up each election. So, our election staff is working hard to get the application to the state ready. It has to go to Commissioner’s Court for approval and then to the Secretary of State. Once we are approved we are okay to do the next election as county – wide voting. Then when the Secretary of State has reviewed the election and gives us a passing grade we are permanently approved for county – wide status.

On July 16, Tuesday, 6 p.m. at the County Courthouse I, along with our Elections Administrator Janice Ruple, will review the plan with those who will attend. I sincerely hope you will attend and ask a lot of questions. Please come and support the process.

We are working to set up a full demonstration of our voting machines and the county – wide plan at Poteet City Hall next month. The Poteet area and its citizens are very important to our plans and we want to include them in the process. I spoke to their City Council and Mayor at their last meeting and a full house about the voting changes I hope to see accomplished and they were engaged and a pleasure to be with. The council was very attentive and asked some very good questions.

Quote for the week, “The world is always changing and moving forward. We have to do the same or get run over and left behind.” Anonymous.

Thank you for listening.

We want you to be proud of your county government.
