I have written many times about the new voting machines, but their use is upon us now. We will be using them in the November election. We will also be having public forums in the county in October for people to come learn about the changes and get a chance to see them and how they work. We are working toward transitioning to county – wide voting and will be trimming (combining) a few of the very small boxes in the county to get our polling station numbers down because this affects the process.
Everyone who has seen and experienced these new machines and been made aware of the new electronic check in procedures have been very excited about the change. So am I.
However, this does involve change and doing things differently than we have for the last 20 years or more. I know you are aware that the time it takes to bring in a major election with the old (present) system has become a real problem. We have simply outgrown the way we are doing it. We do want to be cautious about this change because it involves the most important function of our Republic – voting. And, we have been prodigiously cautious about this coming transition. I am sorry if writing about it again seems to be overdoing, but it is surprising how many people don’t seem to be hearing it. If we have combined your old voting box for this November, we will be notifying you in writing. And, I cannot adequately express my appreciation for your help in this transitory time. We will have all voting boxes listed on our website, but again, if yours has changed we will be doing our best to send you a written notice. The positive attitude and support of Atascosa County voters is something I am counting on.
And again, if you have any group you would like me to come speak to about these changes I will be more than happy to comply. Bless you and thank you.
Thanks for listening. We want you to be proud of your County Government.
