My last weekend was immersed with the Poteet Strawberry Festival and activities. I started with the parade at 10am. It was a great opportunity to meet the grand marshalls, Bob and Kelli Phillips, of the “Texas Country Reporter” TV series. What a treat! They are just as nice as they seem on TV. PSFA – I must say “home run getting them.” It was great to visit with Congressman Cuellar, State Representative Guillen and many other officials. Also, I get to associate with our county officials who are some of the greatest people around. Seeing all our friends lining the parade route was really cool!
Then I made it to the Poteet Strawberry auction at 1pm and made my contribution. Will Bates, a longtime Poteet Rotary member had the great fortune of seeing his granddaughters win the title of “Grand Champion Strawberries”. Another first-time winner was Jim Collum winning the Grand Champion Reserve category. Then I went on to work Saturday at 6 to closing and Sunday 6 to closing in the “Christmas Village” booth selling “street tacos”. It was a great but tiring weekend and I loved seeing so many wonderful people.
I cannot go without expressing my sorrow for the loss of Commissioner (Ret.) Freddie Ogden, Sr. I did not know Freddie that well before I became County Judge but when I got here I found Freddie to be one of the nicest and most helpful people I have ever known. I sought his advice and counsel many times during my first two years and grew to greatly respect him. Rest in peace my friend.
Thanks for listening.
