Atascosa County Judge’s Report

The following was put out by Governor Abbott’s office on Tuesday:

A statewide rental assistance and utility assistance program will begin at 8 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2021. You can visit and or 1-833-989- 7368. Renters and landlords will be directed to set up an account and proceed from there. We understand this will pay rent and utilities that are past due and currently due bills.

Don’t forget, if you need to apply for the new business assistance money from the new Congressional COVID funds go to sba. gov/document/sba-form- 2483-ppp-first-draw-borrower application-form.

We are continuing to push to get more vaccine and run a clinic as soon and possible. We are working on a clinic for those who have called our office and requested to be put on a waiting list. We are projecting the first weekend in March if we can get the vaccine. My efforts have so far resulted in getting the County EMS signed up as a vaccine distribution authority with TDSHS. We are now trying to get the vaccine. I am convinced that the solution to the deaths and terrible sickness our citizens have been exposed to depends on moving as quickly and in as much volume as possible on the administration of a vaccine.

We are so saddened to hear of the death of the significant other for our Deputy Constable, Precinct 1. We send our heartfelt sympathies and condolences. My old friend Leonard Montgomery, whom we nearly lost to COVID, is gradually getting better. The hospital is transferring him to a transitional care facility because he still has a lot of recovery to do. Our prayers go out to all who are suffering and have suffered.

Be safe and hang on. The end of COVID is coming, but we need your help. Thanks for listening.
