I would like to point out that having a truck weigh station to keep overloaded trucks contained makes Atascosa County a safer and better place to live and raise your family. Overloaded trucks roll over more easily, and the extra weight the truck is not designed to carry can cause accidents. Tires can blow out; brakes and brake systems can fail–and all from the overload. I am convinced that our new Weigh Station will save lives in Atascosa County and it will pay for itself over and over through fines.
Having an animal control makes the quality of life so much better in Atascosa County. This is true not only in the Cities, whom we contract with, but in the unincorporated subdivisions where most of the population growth in Atascosa is coming from. The only control in the unincorporated subdivisions is the County Animal Control. There was a horrible wild dog pack attack in Charlotte where a woman was attacked and nearly killed my first year in office and there was nothing we could do about it because we had no program. When I became County Judge, this was the biggest complaint going to our commissioners, mostly from the unincorporated areas. The animal control is in existence first to provide a better quality of life to our citizens. Then, secondarily, to humanely treat the animals. This should be a huge selling point by Realtors to their prospects.
The County EMS Service is a big selling point to live here. Emergency medical service is critical to living in confidence somewhere.
Having a Health, Environmental and Sanitation Inspector also makes Atascosa a better place to live. There was and has been no provision to inspect restaurants, nursing homes, assisted living centers and day care centers. Those all have food preparation as well as other inspection points. We have an existing Sanitation Inspector and he will be training to do the inspection function. I am very keen on this idea. Obviously, in the unincorporated areas sanitation inspection is critical and the facilities health inspection is as well. We will make fees from these inspections. We will also be available for the cities that do not have an inspector.
Our new transportation system will be very convincing item to show that Atascosa County is doing something to work toward a county–wide transportation system. I welcome the opportunity anytime to sell the advantages of Atascosa County to anyone. The above will be selling points to businesses to come here because they need happy employees that live here and a great county to do business in.

Thanks for listening. Let’s keep Atascosa County moving forward!
