Atascosa County Judge’s Report

Atascosa County Judge

We are increasing in COVID positive case by a very large amount. It is a little scary. We don’t know if it is from Memorial Day (the time is right) where folks were not careful with outdoor activities (beach, etc.) or picnics (parks) or other venues. It could be the bars reopening. I am hearing stories of irresponsible activities at the bars concerning lack of social distancing, etc. We will be working to increase testing in Atascosa County as much as possible. More testing may be increasing our numbers but I believe it is better to know. I have instructed our Emergency Department to start preparing a weekly report of all cases since March 1 that defines the results by zip code. We need to study the data carefully. The real problem with rules on this pandemic is enforcement. Social distancing and masks, etc. are very difficult for local law enforcement to deal with when they have so much else to do. We will be communicating every day with you about this. The bus (shuttle) between the Tri City areas is moving along. Jourdanton ratified the interlocal agreement Monday night and we are getting it on the schedules for Pleasanton and Poteet. You should see some implementation starting after July 1. I not only believe this program will benefit lower income and elderly people, but will assist college students as well as employees getting to work. I will be keeping you informed on this.

Quote of the week: “When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity.” Albert Einstein.

Thanks for listening.

We want you to be proud of your County Government.
