The new year comes like a fresh blanket of snow, covering the past year. The past year for many has been good and profitable. Also, for many it has been difficult and financially hard. For many it has been healthy, but for many in 2019 their health or the health of loved ones has been a problem. Many lost loved ones this past year. I see many of them in probate court, but not all. Atascosa County lost some well known citizens, but we should lament the loss of all, whether prominent or not. Each ill person, each suffering person and each person who lost a loved one is equally valuable in God’s eyes. We should realize that sickness and suffering affect everyone. The new year tells us that for those who had a good year, it is in the history book. We start again to build on that goodness and hope for the best. For those whose year was difficult we start again to seek a better year of healing and growth. I am thankful for the stabilizing of oil prices because that has a great affect on County financial income. It also affects jobs, income and the livelihood of just about everyone in the county. The people with oil jobs spend money at all the business in the county. I am so thankful for the backbone of our county’s economy and that is farming and ranching. We so often forget that industry is the one that keeps us going from year to year. I am so thankful for all the farmers, ranchers and small business owners in our county who provide jobs and keep commerce going.
May God Bless Atascosa County in 2020!
