I hope everyone had a great weekend and Thanksgiving.
I know I did. I am very proud the commissioners and myself donated to EMS so the people on duty could have a nice thanksgiving meal. The EMS director, Don Penny, said we have enough money to cover meals for Christmas as well. In a previous column I asked all the readers to go to their local first responders and buy them meals. So, I’m asking you again to do it for Christmas. It means a lot to the people who give up their holidays so we can be served and protected. On another note, Commissioner Gillespie and I went to Austin on Monday and had a very successful meeting with the director of the Texas Juvenile Justine Department (TJJD). I want to specifically thank Senator Flores who facilitated the meeting. As I have told you previously, we are transferring the management of the juvenile center under Commissioners Court. I wanted to meet these people face to face to be sure there wasn’t going to be any bottle necks in the transition.
Atascosa County Commissioners Court is working on a procedure to decide what to do about the tragic vacancy of the office of constable, precinct one. I will keep you informed as to our progress.
Thank you for listening. We want you to be proud of your county government.
