Atascosa County Judge’s Report

Concerning the election machines and the current election:

There was an extremely regretful software issue (not a malfunction but a wrong setting by the vendor) of our voting machines that was fixed on the 4th day of early voting. This was done within hours of coming to our attention. This affected the election for the City of Jourdanton, alone. I have written and talked to the CEO of the company about the issue and lodged the most critical complaint I could. We will stand ready to take responsibility for any fall out from that issue but will also hold the vendor responsible.

Someone on Facebook keeps saying that I am reducing polls and trying to limit those who vote. The intelligent people of Atascosa County will readily see (as most have) that expanding early voting (you can’t go to the wrong early voting station) and 15 county wide polls on November 5th (you can’t go to the wrong polling station). This means that instead of only one early voting station you now have three to pick from and on election day, instead of one polling station you now have 15 to pick from. We have taken the frustration out of figuring out where to vote completely! Except for the above I am getting good comments from the voting staff. Please VOTE!

Our new early voting station is doing well at JP4. This is a slow election because it is constitutional amendments. We have purposely spent more money to fully staff and open all 15 polling stations because I want everyone to get used to the plan. During the last constitutional amendment election we only had one (instead of three) early voting stations and seven (instead of 15) polling stations. I am doing this because next year is a presidential election and we will have a very important primary in March and a general election in November, 2020. I hope to have everyone possible familiar with this system by then.

Thank you for listening. We want you to be proud of your county government.
