Atascosa County athletes win 13 events at chilly Brush Country RelaysFree Access

PLEASANTON—Pleasanton hosted the annual Brush Country Relays track meet on what turned into a chilly night Thursday at Eagle Stadium. Seven schools competed, with Devine winning the boys division and Universal City Randolph topping the girls standings.

On the girls side, Poteet had the county’s best finish at third place. The Lady Aggies totaled 111 points, followed by Pleasanton (101) and Jourdanton (62) in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Poteet boys tied for fourth place with 69 points, while Pleasanton (58) and Jourdanton (3) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Antonio Soriano led the Aggies with first-place finishes in three events. Pleasanton’s Isaac Mendiola won the triple jump, finished second in the high jump and third in the 110 hurdles.

In the girls division, Caitlyn Nieschwitz of Pleasanton won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races. Illeana Bosquez (shot put) and Ayanna Oltivero (400) also won events for the Lady Eagles.

For Poteet, Alina Escamilla won the 100 in 12.58 seconds. She was also second in the 400, third in the long jump and ran a leg for the Lady Aggies’ winning 400 relay. Joining her on the first-place relay team was Kylie Garcia, Autumn Diaz and Danica De La Fuente.

The Jourdanton girls had three individual event winners. Shyanne Bauerle, who was also second in the 200, won the long jump, Mayce Marek took first in the high jump, and Destiny Powell won the pole vault.

Pleasanton and Poteet will compete at Jourdanton’s Daetwyler Relays on Friday at Indian Stadium.
