ATASCOSA COUNTY 4-H PARTICIPATES IN CONTESTS

The members of the Atascosa Club of Equine Enthusiasts participated in the District 12 Horse Judging Contest which ran simultaneously with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Contest. Contestants judged six classes with four horses in each; 2 halter classes and four performance classes: Ranch Riding, Reining, Trail, and Western Riding. Contestants that placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Senior Division of the District 12 Contest get to move to the State 4-H Competition. Senior Team 1st Place: Charity Harris, Emma Smith, and Kate McNeill; Senior Team 3rd Place: Melanie Douglas, Ali Rodriguez, and Mary McLiney; Intermediate Team 3rd Place: Xitlalli Hernandez, JoLeAnn Besancon, Shyanne Sexton, and Kirby McNeill; Intermediate Team 2nd Place: Abby Henry, Megan Pullin, and Annlisa Duck; Junior Team 1st Place: Haley Hannah, Montana Mccarthy, and Kolton Sexton; Junior Individual 2nd Place Haley Hannah and 3rd Place Kolton Sexton; Intermediate Individual 3rd Place Abby Henry; Senior Individual 1st Mary McLiney; 2nd Kate McNeill; and 3rd Emma Smith. San Antonio Stock Show Consumers Team Competed in 2019 San Antonio Stock Show Consumers Decision Making Contest. This contest is based on skills of consumer observation, comparison, and the abilibty to make fact-based purchases. Contestants had to judge six classes selected from consumers products. Examples of products are blue jeans, snack foods, sunscreens, shampoo, and checking account. Contestants were allowed eight minutes for judging each class. Coaches Johanna Hagen and Sue Ann Smiths teams did well at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Competition. One of the junior teams with members Tanner McDougal, Isabella Trapp, Layton Shearrer, and Cross Ringlestein took home 1st place Junior Team. Tanner McDougal won 1st place Junior Individual, and Isabella Trapp won 3rd place Junior Individual. Senior team with members Trey Hagen, Kendall Hagen, Caitlin Neischwitz, and Stayton Hagen won 8th place Senior Team. Trey Hagen won 10th place Senior Individual.
