Arrest made in Charlotte vehicle burglaries

Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward announced that his deputies have made an arrest in connection to a series of vehicle burglaries in Charlotte last summer. The sheriff stated that at least twelve vehicle burglaries were reported to the sheriff’s office from July 28 to July 29. An additional seven vehicle burglaries were reported from the end of August through December 22.

The sheriff said his deputies believe the majority of the vehicle burglaries were committed by the same individuals.

Fingerprints obtained at some of the crime scenes by Deputies Ivan Mendez and Joe Sauceda were recently matched by the lab to a suspect. Arrest warrants were obtained for Francis Joseph Cantu, 17, 803 Commerce Street, Pleasanton charging him with two separate counts of Burglary of a Vehicle. Cantu was arrested on the warrants by Deputy Sheriff Gavin Lindsay on February 20th. Bonds on Cantu were set by J.P. Jackie Bodden at $15,000 on each charge. Sheriff Soward stated that deputies are awaiting lab results on some of the other burglaries and he expects additional charges to be filed. The sheriff also said his deputies have identified a second suspect and are working towards an arrest.
