Arlene Catharine Slomchinski Seay, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve, 2017, surrounded by her family. Born on New Year’s Day, 1939 in Poteet, Texas, Arlene was the first of six children of Philomena Stanush and Wallace Adolph Slomchinski. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1957, where she was an active member of the cheerleading squad, basketball team, FHA and 4-H. Arlene attended Southwest Texas State College where she studied Home Economics and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.  Arlene began her career as a Home Economist for the City Public Service Board in San Antonio and was featured regularly on television and in the San Antonio Express News. Arlene was also co-owner of Rillie’s Flowers and Gifts. She married the love of her life, James “Jimmy” Seay, in 1960, with whom she had four daughters: Joyce, Patricia, Diana, and Catharine. Arlene was an active lifelong member of the Pleasanton Woman’s Club and St. Andrew Catholic Church.  Arlene was recognized throughout the years for her public service and received numerous awards including the Atascosa County Conservation District Homemaker of the Year, Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs Outstanding Club Woman of the Alamo District, and Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Woman of the Year. Arlene loved to entertain, adored her grandchildren and looked forward to her annual summer “Camp Mimi” with the kids, enjoyed playing bridge with friends and traveling with the Texas Peanut Producers Board. She was known for her kindness, grace, generosity, and award-winning cooking skills.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Edwin (Jimmy) Seay, her daughters Joyce Goss and her husband Tim, Patricia Cox and her husband Clyde “Chico,” Diana Dobson and her husband Casey, and Catharine “Cathy” Smith and her husband Brad, as well as her grandchildren, Greer Goss, Eric Eichman, Elizabeth Eichman, Zoë Dobson, Jack Dobson, Zachary Smith and Cade Smith. She is also survived by her sisters Bertha Slomchinski, Janice Wenzel, Ellen Bates, Merelee Altom, her brother Bill Slomchinski, and a host of other extended family members.

Visitation will be Thursday December 28, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM a rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas. A funeral mass will be Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pleasanton, Texas. Interment to follow at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery #1.

Serving as pallbearers for Arlene’s service are Tim Goss, Clyde “Chico” Cox, Casey Dobson, Brad Smith, Eric Eichman, Jack Dobson, Zachary Smith and Cade Smith.
