Antonio P. Ortiz, age 89, of Poteet, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in Jourdanton. He was born July 5, 1932, in Jourdanton, to Pedro and Maria Ortiz.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Ortiz; parents Pedro and Maria Ortiz; six brothers; four sisters; and a greatgrandson.
Antonio is survived by his six daughters, Tonie and husband Tom Cook, of Newaygo, Michigan, Carrie and husband Benny Carrasco, Jr., of Poteet, Gloria “Angie” and husband Raymond Aguayo, of Port Lavaca, Margie and husband Rene Martinez, Sr., Poteet, Linda and husband Johnny Carrasco, Jr., of Poteet and Alicia and husband Greg Stewart, Sr., of Lewistown, Pennsylvania; 12 grandsons; five granddaughters; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Antonio, known to his family and friends as “Dad,” was a Korean War veteran who proudly served in the United States Army. Dad loved to dance, play cards, dominoes and enjoyed being outside watching the red birds, rabbits and hummingbirds. Dad enjoyed spending time with those he loved, talking and eating watermelon.
Dad will be greatly missed until we meet again in glory.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Tony Roy Martinez, Rene Martinez, Jr., Ernest Martinez, Joshua Aguayo, Shaun Aguirre, Jon Carrasco, Matthew Carrasco and Benito Carrasco.
A visitation for Antonio was Tuesday, July 20, at Hurley Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. with a reading of the rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass will be on Wednesday, July 21, at St. Philip of Benizi Catholic Church, located at 274 Avenue H, Poteet, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery in Jourdanton.
