The Dollar General store located on Hwy. 97 in Jourdanton is the latest business in the county that has been robbed.
Jourdanton Chief of Police Eric Kaiser confirmed the robbery occurred on Sunday, January 31 around 7:35 p.m. The male subject, wearing all black – including a black mask, entered the store with a firearm, according to witnesses. “He demanded cash from the registers and fled the store on foot,” said Chief Kaiser. There were two clerks on duty and multiple shoppers in the store at the time of the robbery. No one was harmed.
Investigators from the Jourdanton Police Department, Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, Pleasanton Police Department and Texas Rangers are working together on the recent outbreak of armed robberies in and around Atascosa County.
In the last three months, six stores have been robbed at gunpoint and one suspect was allegedly wielding a knife. Stripes in Jourdanton was robbed twice – December 14 and January 20. Murphy’s Oil gas station was robbed at knifepoint on December 15.
On November 26, Red’s Barn was robbed, Dollar General’s robbery in Pleasanton occurred on January 3, the Valero gas station’s robbery in Charlotte happened on January 26 and now the Dollar General in Jourdanton.
A query to the corporate office of Dollar General yielded the following statement from Crystal W. Ghassemi, Dollar General Corporate Communications, “At this time, we are referring all media inquiries to local authorities as they complete their investigation.”
