Alleged thief arrested by ACSO



Quick action by the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office has landed a Charlotte man in the county jail charged with felony theft.

According to Sheriff David Soward, on the morning of Sept. 23, Deputy Sheriff Bryan Cantu was dispatched to the Charlotte school for a theft and criminal mischief. Deputy Cantu met with school officials and Deputy Constable Tillie Wilborn, the school resource officer. School security cameras had recorded an individual taking copper wire from a construction project on school property. The individual had also cut an internet cable interrupting internet to the Elementary school. Officers immediately recognized the individual.

Deputy Sheriff Cantu obtained an arrest warrant for Billy Joel Rodriguez, age 30, of Charlotte. Rodriguez was arrested that day and booked into the Atascosa County Jail for Theft of Copper. A charge of Criminal Mischief is expected to be filed against Rodriguez by sheriff’s investigators upon the completion of their investigation. Sheriff Soward stated that Rodriguez remains in jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond set by J.P. Felix Herrera.
