All four inner-county teams win

Grid Picks

It was a good time on the gridiron for all of our inner county football teams last weekend. The Charlotte Trojans got their first win, 12-6, over Premont. Running back Manuel Cancel, QB Alex Martinez and Receiver Brandon Sanchez were stellar performers for the Trojans.

Meanwhile, the Poteet Aggies picked up their first win, crushing San Antonio Cole, 40-20. RB Ernest Davila and QB Eric Treviño turned in fine peformances for the Aggies.

Jourdanton took care of business in their 56-7 domination of Dilley. The Indians are running ‘on all cylinders’.

Same story for the Pleasanton Eagles who were an easy win over San Antonio Lanier. The Eagles built up a 49-19 lead over Lanier, scoring 28 unanswered points in the third quarter and first play of the fourth quarter. Shortly after this scoring barrage, the Eagles elected to empty the benches on offense and defense for the rest of the 4th quarter – starters work was done.

This allowed Lanier to score two more TDs, creating an ending 49-33 win over the Voks. During this period of time, on offense, the Eagles let the clock run down before running plays – no passing. There was nothing else to gain.

Interesting stats in San Antonio Express-News Sports 6A on down: Pleasanton’s Dalton hobbs leads in receiving with 300 yds. and 4 TDs. Meanwhile Eagle QB Nathaniel Acevedo is 3rd in passing yardage with 477 yds, 7 TDs. He trails Judson’s QB Michael Chandler’s 481 yards, 4 TDs.
