Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward is crediting an alert neighbor in helping deputies apprehend two burglary suspects last week, October 20th, in the Shalimar Subdivision. A subdivision resident observed two suspicious males walking around their neighbor’s yard and notified Atascosa County Sheriff’s dispatchers who dispatched Deputies J.D. Ruiz and Henry Dominguez to the location. When the deputies arrived a few minutes later they observed one of the suspects trying to walk out of the house. The man retreated and both suspects climbed out a window and took off on foot.
Deputy Dominguez apprehended one suspect after a short foot chase. Deputy Ruiz pursued the other suspect on foot down Timbercreek Drive and across TX Highway 16.
Ruiz was joined by five other deputies and they eventually located the second suspect and took him into custody. Both were transported to the Atascosa County Jail.
Sheriff Soward identified the pair as Mathew Garcia 26, of the 200 block of Dawnridge (Shalimar) and Geoffrey Garcia 24, of the 500 block of Timbercreek (Shalimar). Both were charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Evading Arrest. Bond on the burglary duo was set at $88,000 each by Justice of the Peace Pct. 4, Jackie Bodden. Both are still in custody according to the Sheriff.
