A 23-year-old Christine man has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in connection to an incident on July 2 on Texas Highway 97 near the Atascosa County Livestock Exchange.
Sheriff’s dispatchers began getting frantic 9-1-1 calls shortly before 9:15 p.m. reporting a woman being run over by a pickup truck whose driver fled the scene. Sheriff’s deputy Ralph Coronado and Pleasanton Police responded to the scene and found the 21-year-old woman suffering from broken bones in her hand and severe bruises and abrasions.
She was air lifted by Air- Life to University Hospital in San Antonio.
The victim told investigating officers that her husband pushed her out of the truck during an argument and then ran over her as he fled the scene.
Captain Investigator Matt Miller stated that the suspect, identified as Daylon Brooks of Christine, took the truck to a residence near Jourdanton and then walked into the sheriff’s office to turn himself in.
Brooks was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and booked in to the Atascosa County Jail.
Bond on Brooks was set at $40,000 by Justice of the Peace Betty Caballero. Brooks remains in jail in lieu of bond.
