For the first time since 2016, the Poteet Aggies are playoffbound after a dominant 57-14 win over Pearsall at home on Friday.

“Win or lose, this team makes every play worth it,” senior Eric Treviño said. “We deserved it.”

The Aggies set the tone on the second play of the game by recovering the first of three fumbles by the Mavericks. Treviño would score the first touchdown of the game eight plays later on a 9-yard run.

Freshman Alex Lockamy would then close out Poteet’s scoring in the first quarter with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Treviño and then a 3-yard touchdown run of his own to put the Aggies up 21-0 entering the second quarter.

Treviño would finish the game with 248 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries.

Defensively, the Aggies held Pearsall to just 288 yards of total offense. They also forced the Mavericks into six turnovers on the night. Julian Moya led the way for the Aggies with 16 tackles, two for a loss and a forced fumble. Joey Davila had 13 tackles, three sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries for Poteet.

Two of those turnovers were interceptions by Giovani Magirl and sophomore Diego Garza, who intercepted a pass late in the game to seal the 43-point win.

The Aggies eventually scored 21 points off turnovers in the win. In total, they finished with 435 yards of total offense and scored on eight of their 12 offensive possessions.

“They came out in a different defense than they had shown. It didn’t faze us one bit,” head coach Darby House said. “Offensively, we drove right down the field. It’s a great feeling.”

Senior Seth Ritchey felt every Aggie did the job they were supposed to.

“Everyone played with their hearts and left it out on the field and that’s why we won,” Ritchey said.

The Aggies (3-7) will square off with Wimberley (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at San Antonio Veterans Memorial Stadium.

“It’s a whole other season now,” House said. “But we’re in the playoffs, anything can happen.”
