On Wednesday, July 11, Atascosa County Sheriff investigators, along with Texas Rangers and the Uvalde Police Department, recovered a 10 year old boy from Uvalde who was kidnapped the day before by a non family member.

The 10 year old was staying at his grandmother’s house with his 11-year-old friend when Erica Jean Gerdes, mother of the 11 year old, stole the grandmother’s car and took off with the two boys.

About 15-16 hours into the investigation, Uvalde Police received an anonymous tip leading them to the 4200 block of FM 2146 in Jourdanton where the boy was found without harm.

Gerdes was arrested and booked into Atascosa County Jail by police where she was charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and released the same day on a PR bond. The case is still currently under investigation by Uvalde Police and Texas Rangers to figure out Gerdes’s motive for kidnapping the boy.

Charges are pending according to the Uvalde Police Department.
