Members of the Pleasanton Police Department responded to a major accident in the 1800 block of Hwy 97 East at 5:58 a.m., on June 4. When officers arrived they discovered an adult male pinned between a semi-truck flatbed trailer and a Ford pickup. Officers also discovered that a male inside the Ford pickup was pinned.
Members of the Pleasanton Fire Department were summoned to the location and used the Jaws of Life to remove the driver of the Ford pickup, identified as Ron Rodriguez, who was transported to Methodist South Hospital before being transported to SAMMC in San Antonio with severe chest trauma. The person, identified as David Gage, who was pinned between the trailer and Ford pickup was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 Michael Pascarella.
The investigation discovered that Mr. Gage was pulling out on Hwy 97 from a private drive when he apparently discovered that the trailer jacks were in the down position and the feet struck concrete. The investigation indicates that Mr. Gage exited the semi- tractor and was in the process of raising the trailer jacks when he was struck by the on-coming vehicle. No charges are expected to be filed against the other driver.
