Pleasanton’s Pleasanton Lady Eagles Volleyball kept their winning streak going last week with a pair of wins. Perhaps the biggest win was Friday when the Lady Eagles hosted the Carrizo Springs Lady Wildcats. It was in that game that a pair of Lady Eagles reached milestones for their careers.
Sadie McAda notched the 1000th kill of her career during the match with the Lady Wildcats.
“I knew I was at 994 before the game,” McAda said. “I was focused on the game, but it was nice to have my team supporting me afterwards.”
That same game, Tess Underbrink recorded her 1500th career assist.
“I didn’t know I was close to 1500,” Underbrink said. “Before the game I saw balloons in a room and I knew Sadie was close to 1,000 so I thought they were for her. It was really sweet.”
Before their celebration against Carrizo Springs, The Lady Eagles opened the week with a trip to San Antonio to face Holy Cross. Pleasanton swept the Knights on their home court with winning scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-16.
McAda finished with 22 kills against Holy Cross to put her six away from 1,000 heading into the Carrizo Springs game. Underbrink accounted for 31 of the Lady Eagles 37 assists on Tuesday. Underbrink also tied with Victoria Urbanczyk for the team lead with 12 digs. McAda added 11 digs against Holy Cross. Urbanczyk also finished with nine kills against the Knights.
The game against Carrizo Springs ended as so many Lady Eagles games have ended so far this season, with the Lady Eagles sweeping their opponents off the court. Each set on Friday ended with the Lady Eagles winning by a score of 25-11.
McAda finished the Friday game with 16 kills and 18 digs. Underbrink finished with 34 assists and seven digs against Carrizo Springs. Urbanczyk added 14 kills and six digs. Mary Martinez finished with eight digs.
Pleasanton had another non-district game last night when they hosted Brackenridge. Results of that game were not available at press time.
The Lady Eagles will open the district portion of their schedule on Friday when they travel to face Cuero.
“We still can get better,” Pleasanton Head Coach Gabriel Aguirre said. “We’re still not clicking on all cylinders yet, but we’re getting there.”
As for McAda and Underbrink, both have ideas for what they’d like to accomplish as the season moves into district.
“I’d like to reach 2,000 (assists),” Underbrink said. “I hope I can get there. We haven’t even started district yet so we have those games and hopefully the playoffs.”
If Underbrink is able to reach her goal, it would take a lot more volleyball. Something that also ties into McAda’s goal.
“We’re hoping to get first or second in district,” McAda said. “That would give us a potentially easier path in the playoffs.”
After Friday in Cuero the Lady Eagles will be at La Vernia next Tuesday night.
