The 13th Annual Texas Sized Health Fair is set for Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the South Texas Regional Medical Center (STRMC) campus. The health fair will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 a.m. As always there is no cost for the health fair.
This year the registration area and starting point for the health fair will be the South Texas Medical Plaza, look for the registration table.
This year will feature medical practices from the community, as well as other local businesses. It provides a great opportunity for attendees to get familiar with their health care options in the community and meet some of the staff for these businesses.
Additional medical practices and service lines will be stationed throughout the hospital which is attached to the South Texas Medical Plaza via a covered walkway.
South Texas Regional is also providing information on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), there will be a booth to give out information and schedule appointments to enroll in your choice of plan through the ACA.
There will be several vendors participating representing a diverse spectrum of healthcare providers and services. As in years past, free screenings will be offered, including blood glucose screening, blood pressure checks, and many others.
$15.00 Flu shots
Aside from free screenings, STRMC will provide free hot dogs, chips, drinks and cotton candy for attendees, as well as inflatable bounce castles for children.
Attendees will also be able to tour the first floor community room in the South Texas Regional Medical Plaza as well as the space for South Texas Regional Rehabilitation Center and South Texas Regional Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center. The Medical Plaza just celebrated its one year anniversary but there are still a lot of people unfamiliar with the services available.
“I speak with people on a regular basis who aren’t aware of some of the specialties that we offer in this building. We offer General Surgery, Pulmonology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology in addition to Primary Care. We’re proud of our excellent physicians and the continuum of care that we’re able to offer, and we want to continue to make the community aware of that.” said Kevin Long, Practice manager director.
