Charles M. Griffin, Sr.
Charles M. Griffin, Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 in San Antonio. He was born in McAllen to Leon and June Griffin. Charles was an electrician and installed the light at the top of the Tower of the Americas when it was built. He enjoyed woodworking and being with his family especially his grandkids. Charles was an active member of the Poteet Rotary Club and served as a past president and treasurer and he also helped with the Poteet Strawberry Festival Association. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Leon “Max” Griffin and June Jenkins; stepmother, Eloise Griffin; daughter, Margie Urban, and brother, Robert Griffin.
Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Violet Griffin; son, Charles Griffin Jr. and wife Violanda; daughters, Carol Le Sage and husband Mark and Terri Hoffman and husband Larry; son-in-law, Steve Urban; sister, Nita Harvey and husband George, and brothers, Stephan Jenkins and wife Donna and Philip Jenkins and wife Kris. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Charlene Herrera and husband James, Cynthia Regan and husband Jason, Jacob Griffin and wife Adriana, and Stephanie Lopez and husband Joey; great-grandchildren, Brice Hoffman, Giavana Herrera, Dominic Herrera, Sydney Regan, Gabriella Regan, Trinity Regan, Sylar Griffin, Zoey Griffin, Steve Lopez, Mason Lopez, and Nicholas Lopez.
Charles will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn Road in Pleasanton with Murphy Robertson officiating.
The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
