Gathering for Annie Brown’s 100th birthday celebration were classmate’s from the Pleasanton High School Class of 1939. Mrs. Brown served as room mother for the class. Everyone came out winners Sunday when Elizabeth Netardus, seated, watched as her hand stitched quilt raised a total of $1,575 for St. Matthews Catholic Church during the church’s picnic auction. The beautiful green and pink quilt went for $920 the first time around when Raul Hernandez, left, of South Texas Distributing out bid Carla McCarthy, right. He then donated it back and this time no one came close as Carla went $675 for the blanket. Standing with McCarthy and Hernandez is Carla’s husband, Royce, and 9-year-old son, Ronnie.

Six-Pound Catfish – Joel McDaniel of Pleasanton wanted his two daughters to pose with this fish he caught at a local tank Sunday but they refused unless their daddy was in the picture also. So here is Joel with his two little gals, Jodie and Jessica (in back).

40 years ago

Foreign Language Students were in Pleasanton last week as guests of the Rotary Club. Forty-four students, from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran and Thailand, who are attending the Language School at Lackland Air Force Base, are pictured listening to Ben Parker telling about the founding of Pleasanton. THey were treated to coffee and donuts, then welcomed by Mayor Travis Hall. Following Parker’s talk they took a bus and toured the 74 Ranch and Edmond Tom’s Ranch and had a real Texas Barbecue dinner.

Touchdown Aggies – QB L. Alaniz punches over from the 2-yard stripe in Poteets 38-0 route of the Falls City Beavers. Alaniz  is rated by Eagle Coach Jim McGill as perhaps the best passer that his charges will see all year.
