The local 4-H club created a “birthday-in-a-box” project and presented the gifts to CASA os South Texas for children in foster care. The “Happy Birthday” community service project is in conjunction with the 4-H Centennial (100 years) Celebration. Carolyn Osborn says their hope is that CASA kids “enjoy each box as it is given in the spirit to honor them.” Pictured left to right front row: Amantha Hons, Travis Bonner, Brooke Rutherford, Jaclyn Bonner and Rebekah Wagner. Pleasanton quarterback/safety, Garret Schuchart, had an outstanding game, engineering three score drives while also having an outstanding defensive performance.

Del Lemmond of Poteet said he was lobbing chicken liver on a rod and reel at the Pleasanton River Park’s Atascosa River when he latched on to this 4 1/4-pound catfish. He caught it about 6:30 in the morning.

Winning totoe bags are Melissa Orta and Olivia Flores. Also pictured is Frank Dillard who won a lawn chair in a Coca-Cola promotion.

Poteet Beauties – Pictured are the leaders of Poteet High School’s crack drill team, The Strawberry Belles. This group, Debbie Hooge, Jeri Davis, Melanie Ellison, Kim Bryce, Lillian Cruz and Melanie Baird, recently attended the Showcase Drill Team Clinic at Texas A&I University at Kingsville where their outstanding performances won them an achievement trophy and a superior rating ribbon. The clinic was conducted under the direction of the National Drill Team Association. Poteet High School Strawberry Belles will be featured during half-time activities this season at all Poteet Aggie football games and at other events.

Loves the Football Contest – Young or old, everybody likes to enter the Pleasanton Express’ Football Contest now going on each week during the football season. Four and half year old Denise Huble, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Huble of Pleasanton is not quite tall enough to reach the entry box but she is ably helped by her mother here as she slips in her father’s guesses. Her daddy came close, missing just two games in Pleasanton contest but was beaten out by the tie-breaker.

Texas Bound – Texas farmers now are receiving Ford diesel tractors from the largest single shipment ever delivered in the state. Two Ford Motor Company officials are shown inspecting the special train load of 255 diesel tractors as it recently left Dearborn, Mich. for The Stewart Company in Dallas, distributor of Ford farm equipment in Texas.
