Four athletes from Atascosa County are headed to the state powerlifting meet after qualifying in Carrizo Springs on Saturday.
Pleasanton will send a pair of lifters, Illeana Bosquez and Madison Curbow. Jourdanton’s Rakel Aguero and Poteet’s Amanda Rivera also advanced to state.
Bosquez and Curbow each qualified in the 259-pound division, finishing in the top two.
Bosquez won the regional championship with a total of 865 pounds, and Curbow lifted 740.
Bosquez had a personal-best 405 on squat, 145 on bench and 315 on deadlift. Curbow lifted a personal-best 305 on squat, 150 on bench and 285 on deadlift.
Aguero returns to state after meeting the qualifying total with 870 pounds. Competing in the 165-pound division, she lifted 370 on squat, 205 on bench and 295 on deadlift.
Rivera, competing in the 181-pound class, hit the state-qualifying total with 865 pounds. She had 410 on squat, 145 on bench and 310 on deadlift.
Poteet’s Alina Escamilla also participated at the regional meet at 105 pounds. She finished eighth with a total of 595 pounds (265 on squat, 105 on bench and 225 on deadlift).
Jourdanton’s Bailey Luckman was also a regional qualifier, placing 11th in the 105-pound class. She lifted 225 on squat, 125 on bench and 205 on deadlift for a total of 555.
