$392,700 tops out in Tilden

McMullen Livestock Sales Up

Not only were the auction sales a record-breaker, $392,700 for this year, but the 82 degree weather may have been one as well.

Several judges commented that the warmer than usual weather was affecting the animals’ behavior – making them more skittish than in cooler years.

The warmth certainly didn’t affect the buyers and bidders. Thanks to them, $117,100 more was spent than in 2012.

Organizers for the event were very pleased and announced that the showbarn area will be enlarged for next year’s stock show.

Grand Champions

Ashely Lewis’ steer is the Grand Champion winner at the McMullen Co. Livestock Show. Strike Construction and Q Haul were high bidders with a price of $13,000.

Cotton Harris won Grand Champion in the Swine division.

Prime Materials bought it for $10,500. Cotton also won in Showmanship.

Buying Charity Harris’s Grand Champion Lamb for $11,000 was Water Well Services.

Paloma Cattle Co. paid $8,500 for Allison Rowe’s Grand Champion Rabbits.

The Grand Champion Goat was awarded to Colton Gonzales. The following businesses buying the animal were Strike Construction, Supreme Rentals, Macy’s Rentals, Y Bar Ranch and Overwatch. They spent $11,000. Colton also won Showmanship in this division.

Caina Sneed won Grand Champion in the Poultry Division. Brad West and Leo Quintanilla bought them for $9,000.

Reserve Grand Champions

The Reserve Grand Champion Steer was awarded to Brannon Weolfel. Buying the steer for $12,000 were Kopplin Ag Services, Three Rivers Farmer’s Co-op, Jamie Donnell, Randy and Tammy Kopplin, Tracy and Dustin Favor.

Tyler Gunter won Reserve Grand Champion Swine. Buying the hog for $9,500 were, Talisman Energy, Chesapeake Energy, Schoolhouse Syndicate and Atascosa Livestock Exchange.

Carter Garcia won Reserve Grand Champion with his lamb. The winning bid of $8,500 went to Schoolhouse Syndicate, Atascosa Syndicate, San Miguel Syndicate and Chesapeake Energy.

Rudy Mesa won Reserve Grand Champion Rabbits and received a bid of $7,000 from Wheelers’ Mercantile, San Miguel Syndicate and J. E. Wheeler, Jr.

Donnie Soward won Reserve Grand Champion with his poultry. SAYLEE Salt Water Disposal paid $10,000 for the prized poultry.

Little Britches Show

Nichole Sullivan, Ag Science Teacher from Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, had encouraging words for the exhibitors participating in the inaugural show.

In the Goats and Sheep competition, Taber Garcia won with her lamb. Rylie Kuehlem won with her goat. Also competing were Alonzo Garcia, Huter Hassette and Gabriel Garza.

In the Swine Divsion, O’Brien Underwood won. Participants were Brayden Serrata, Tate Turner, Luke Ridgeway, Keegan Green and Kyndell Seidel.
